Examinations of seafarers are among few examinations in medical practices evaluating you for work at any position in the maritime sector, in any country of the world, regardless of your nationality, the flag under which your boat is sailing, the country of the owner or the country of the registration of the company. In such an international system and legislation with applicable international law as well as laws of the flag under which the boat is sailing and laws of the country which issues you the certificate on work ability, and which are not compatible in certain details, sometimes it is not easy to comply with everything that makes the assessment of work ability of seafarers and the certificate on work ability valid. The essence of examination of seafarers should be to assess whether a seafarer is able to perform his work during a two-year period without endangering himself/herself, the boat or the crew, and that he/she can respond to the requirement of sudden strains in case of a maritime accident. The certificate which the seafarer gets means exactly that and does not represent a “bill of health”. In a system in which the interests of ship-owners, states, insurers and agents are interwoven, and all of them may set their own conditions which the seafarer has to meet, it is important that the seafarer is examined appropriately and that the process of making a clinical decision was correct.

Our institution is globally known as the most important Croatian centre for examinations of seafarers and the only one in Croatia working in accordance with IMHA Quality System for examinations of s seafarers. We possess all international authorizations for examining seafarers sailing on ships under all flags of the world, including the Norwegian and Belgian authorization. Our examinations are recognized by all P&I Clubs worldwide. Our experts were personally involved in the development of international legal tools, rules and conventions regulating medical examinations of seafarers (STCW, MLC 2006, WHO International Medical Guide for Ships 3, ILO /IMO Guidelines on the Medical Examinations of Seafarers) and they cooperate on a regular basis with the ITF and the Seafarers Union of Croatia.

For seafarers, Croatian and foreign ship-owners and P&I Clubs as well as for bar institutions in Croatia and abroad, we perform expertise on medical fitness of seafarers in case of illness or injuries.
